Kay Burley has apologised after she confused the late Dennis Waterman with another television star following his passing. In a statement released on Sunday, Dennis' heartbroken family revealed the celebrated star had died at the age of 74 in Spain, with his wife Pam by his side.Taking to Twitter, Sky News presenter Kay accidentally paid tribute to "Pete" Waterman, who is a record producer and was a judge on Popstars: The Rivals.
Upon realising her mistake, Kay wrote in her amended tweet: "'RIP Dennis Waterman. A brilliant actor who was a staple on our screens throughout the 70s and 80s." The newsreader continued: "Loved The Sweeney.
Loved Minder more. He was 74. "My apologies for using the incorrect first name for Dennis in a previous tweet which I have deleted," she added.
Announcing Dennis's passing, his family said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis passed away very peacefully at his home in Spain. "The family kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time." Legendary actor Dennis hit the big time in the seventies and eighties.
