Phillip Schofield has opened up about the shock he felt when his mum and brother were diagnosed with the same serious health condition.The 62-year-old TV star, who is making a sensational return to our screens this week in Channel 5's Cast Away, had previously cut ties with his brother, Timothy, 54, after he was sentenced to 12 years in prison last year after being found guilty of 11 sexual offences involving a minor between October 2016 and October 2019, including two counts of sexual activity with a child.
Despite their strained relationship, Phillip previously spoke candidly about the moment his family "sat down together" after both Timothy and their mum, Pat, were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes within six months of each other.
In a chat with Health Awareness, Phil shared: "My brother and mother are both Type 1 diabetics and have been for the last 25 years, so it is something that as a family we are very used to.
If either of them have a hypo (a Hypoglycaemic episode which occurs when blood glucose levels drop, usually below 4 mmol/L), we can recognise the signs and we know what to do.
