PFA statement in full regarding footballers taking pay cuts amid coronavirus pandemic

The Professional Footballers' Association has told players to be careful about accepting wage cuts because changes to their contracts at short notice could be illegal.

The PFA have been holding talks with the Premier League about a possible wage cut or deferral as part of the ongoing battle against the coronavirus crisis.

Up to now, nothing has been agreed, with clubs and millionaire players coming under fire from all angles for not giving up part of their huge wages to help save jobs and protect the futures of lower league clubs.

The Government have stepped in and told the relevant authorities to come up with a plan - otherwise top flight clubs will be hit with huge tax bills.
