Paramount is reported to be developing a sequel for streaming service Paramount+, “Tracy Flick Can’t Win,” based on Perrotta’s follow-up novel, published in 2022, with Witherspoon reprising her iconic role and Payne tapped to direct.

Paramount Pictures Lands Rebecca Serle Bestseller ‘One Italian Summer’

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Film rights to Rebecca Serle’s novel “One Italian Summer” have sold to Paramount Pictures. The Brian Robbins-led studio won a competitive auction for the bestseller, published by Simon & Schuster’s Atria label. Temple Hill will produce a feature adaptation and Serle is executive producing with David Stone of TFC Productions. “One Italian Summer” follows Katy, a young woman reeling from the recent loss of her mom and best friend Carol. A sequel to the cult classic dark comedy Election has been announced with Reese Witherspoon returning as overly-ambitious Tracy Flick. The upcoming film, Tracy Flick Can't Win, will follow the former student body president winner as an adult and once again attempting to climb to the top, according to Deadline. Paramount Pictures announced the project will be heading to its streamer Paramount+. Witherspoon will return to play Tracy and will also serve as producer on the project alongside Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine.
