Joe Otterson TV Reporter HBO has formally ordered “The Chair Company,” the comedy series starring and co-created by Tim Robinson. The project was originally announced with a pilot order back in April. Robinson co-created the series with Zach Kanin, with both also serving as executive producers.

After taking the internet by storm in recent years with his Emmy-winning sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave, Tim Robinson has found his first lead film role in Friendship, a surreal buddy comedy co-starring Paul Rudd that’s making its world premiere tonight in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.

Variety had with multiple top sales agencies, a common silver lining emerged: in-house production is down across the board at the legacy studios and streamers, mostly thanks to the paralytic effect of the 2023 actor-and-writer strikes. Lake Bell (“Harley Quinn,” “Mother Couch”), Sophia Lillis (“It,” I Am Not Okay With This”), Will Price (“After the Hunt,” “A Complete Unknown”), Joseph Tudisco (“A Brooklyn Love Story,” “FBI”), and Lou Diamond Phillips (“Search Party,” “Easter Sunday”) will all appear in the pilot. Phillips will be a guest star while the other four will be series regulars.

A college comedy series starring Steve Carell has landed a 10-episode, straight-to-series order from HBO. The half-hour, single-camera project comes from veteran comedy writer-producers Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (The Goldbergs) and Warners Bros. Television where Lawrence’s Doozer banner and Tarses are under overall deals.
