Netflix has released a report of the platform’s most-watched shows and movies from the first half of 2023.In a press release on Tuesday (December 12), the company announced it would publish a new report twice a year to show what people viewed over a six month period. The first ‘What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report’ spans viewing figures from January to June 2023.The comprehensive report covers over 18,000 titles and represents 99 per cent of all viewing on Netflix, amounting to nearly 100 billion hours viewed.While the shows and movies are ranked based on total hours viewed, Netflix notes that success on the platform “is not determined by hours viewed alone” – with the size of the audience relative to the budget also cited as a factor.The Night Agent came out on top in the rankings, racking up over 812million hours globally.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter WeTV is set to air the CBS remake of “S.W.A.T.” in syndication. The non-exclusive cable rights deal will see the first six seasons of the cop drama air on the AMC-owned network beginning Nov. 12.

AMC Networks’ WE tv has acquired the non-exclusive cable rights to all seven seasons of S.W.A.T. from Sony Pictures Television. The action drama starring Shemar Moore will make its cable debut on WE tv Nov. 12.

The seasoned showrunner is back in his element, leading a writers room and juggling two series, Netflix’s “The Night Agent” and the final season of CBS’ high-octane police drama “S.W.A.T.” The end of the Writers Guild of America strike late last month unleashed a torrent of work for Ryan and his teams based at Sony Pictures Television. “Night Agent” was a little more than halfway done with writing for the 10 episodes for Season 2 when writers went pencils down on May 2.

A showrunners picket at Fox that started as a way to show solidarity during the strike ended up raising close to $45,000 for crew members who have been adversely affected by the work stoppage.

More good news for S.W.A.T. The series, which just got a renewal for a seventh and final season by CBS, also has a new streaming home. The current sixth season of the series is expected to join them on the platform in the fall.

Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, he strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds. The cast also included Rochelle Aytes as Hondo’s girlfriend Nichelle, Jay Harrington as David “Deacon” Kay, Kenny Johnson as Dominique Luca, David Lim as Victor Tan, and Alex Russell as Jim Street. Season 6, which is currently on the air, is averaging 6.8 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49 according to Nielsen’s Live + 7 data from late April.

CBS has decided not to renew S.W.A.T. for another season.

The action thriller series debuted on the streaming service less than a week ago, on March 23. It proved to be popular immediately, rocketing up to the top of Netflix’s weekly Top 10 chart with 168.71 million hours viewed. The second season will consist of 10 episodes. “The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share ‘The Night Agent’ with the world,” said series creator Shawn Ryan. “To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.”

This was quick — a day after Netflix unveiled record opening weekend viewership for The Night Agent, the streamer has picked up a second season of the political conspiracy thriller series from creator Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television for a second season. This marks one of the fastest renewal decisions for Netflix, which typically waits for date on a series’ 28-day performance before pulling the trigger.
