George Russell sends warning to Ferrari after Mercedes improvement in Barcelona
Mercedes after recording the team's best qualifying session so far this season for the Barcelona Grand Prix. The Silver Arrows showed signs of a revival heading into the race in Spain and maintained their improvements throughout practice and into Saturday's qualifying session.Russell, who had qualified outside of the top 10 last time out in Miami, was able to outperform teammate Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull's Sergio Perez to come in fourth - the highest he has ever qualified since joining Mercedes.Despite the improvements, Mercedes were still off the pace of their rivals and competing for pole position and race wins seems to be a step too far for now but Russell is adamant that there is still more to come from the team."It wasn't actually our most perfect qualifying session, we didn't quite have the tyres in the right window and I think there's more lap time on the table yet we still came home in P4 which is our best qualifying of the season," he told Sky Sports."Looking at our pace on Friday, we had a better race car than we did qualifying car so I think that we've got a real chance against Ferrari but Red Bull, especially Max, look to be a little bit faster in the race. It's all to play for."A big improvement for Mercedes was the quelling of the porpoising issue that has plagued their season so far, something Russell welcomed: "I don't feel quite as fatigued after that session compared to what I'm used to.

Mercedes show signs of revival but Lewis Hamilton still behind George Russell
Lewis Hamilton continued to be outshone by teammate George Russell. The Silver Arrows have been unable to compete with Ferrari and Red Bull at the front of the grid this season, with porpoising issues proving to be their Achilles heel and leaving them in a midfield battle. However, Mercedes began to show they had quelled those problems in the practice sessions in Barcelona and, unlike last time out in Miami, were able to maintain those showings in Saturday's qualifying session.Russell continues to be Mercedes' shining light ahead of seven-time world champion Hamilton though, qualifying ahead of his teammate and Red Bull's Sergio Perez - showing that he could have a say in the title battle this season.Despite those improvements, Mercedes still seem to be a long way from fighting for pole position and race wins though as Russell finished six tenths off a second from Charles Leclerc, who starts on pole, with Hamilton a further three tenths back.It leaves Hamilton in particular with plenty of work to do and provides further evidence that his quest for an eighth world title will have to run beyond 2022, with the experienced Brit unable to compete this season. Will George Russell secure a podium finish in Barcelona? Comment below.Russell has finished in the top five in every race so far this season and, starting fourth, looks set to maintain that record. While Mercedes have largely performed better on race day than they have in qualifying or practice this season, Barcelona is a notoriously difficult track to overtake and looks likely to remain that way despite F1's regulation changes this year. The winner at the Circuit de Catalunya has started on pole 23 times in 31 races, while there's only been three race winners in Barcelona

Christian Horner issues Ferrari prediction after Red Bull's 1-2 finish at Imola
Red Bull's title battle with Ferrari will be 'super-competitive' throughout the course of the season, with the result at Imola seeing the gap closed.Red Bull secured a rare 1-2 finish in Ferrari's home race, with Max Verstappen easing his way to victory ahead of Sergio Perez and McLaren's Lando Norris taking the final spot on the podium following Charles Leclerc's late error. The championship leader was chasing down Perez on soft tyres as he looked to increase his points tally and decrease the dent Verstappen was set to put on his advantage but suffered as a late spin led him to require another pit and a new front wing.Leclerc exited the pits in ninth and, while he took three places back to finish sixth, it resulted in a day to forget for Ferrari - with Carlos Sainz' race lasting just a few corners before contact with Daniel Ricciardo led to another unfinished race for the Spaniard. The result has rejuvenated Verstappen's title defence, having failed to finish two of the first three races, but Horner believes it's just one twist in a long and winding battle between the two teams that will last the entirety of the season."Ferrari has a great car, with great drivers, they've been unlucky in this race. They're going to be super-competitive in two weeks' time [in Miami] and I think it's going to be like that all season."Red Bull's points haul was made even more important following Leclerc's late spin, following on from Carlos Sainz' exit on the first lap, and Horner assessed that the mistake from the championship leader came because he was 'too greedy'.HAVE YOUR SAY! Who will emerge victorious in the hunt for the title? Comment below."He [Leclerc] was pushing very hard all race.
