Paramount’s Pluto TV and French broadcaster M6 have inked a programming deal that will see each provide content to the other’s digital platforms.

Movies and movie channels are driving viewing on FAST services, a packed room at the Cannes Marché du Film heard today. Owners of movie libraries and IP stand to generate significant revenue from free streaming as the sector booms, the boss of Pluto TV, one of the leaders in the field told the Cannes audience.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Pluto TV, Paramount’s free streaming television service, is to launch in Australia from the end of August. Comprising more than 50 free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels, Pluto TV will be sold as a dedicated branded area within Paramount Australian and New Zealand’s digital platform 10 Play.

In addition, Pluto TV will offer a curated slate of original series from Corus’ library spanning a variety of genres.Pluto TV’s launch in the Great White North should continue to fuel its growth curve.

Also Monday, the company announced a new title for Olivier Jollet, who has been elevated to the role of EVP, international GM of Pluto TV (previously he was SVP and GM of Pluto TV internationally).The company’s streaming portfolio includes SkyShowtime, a premium streaming joint venture with Comcast, which is scheduled to launch in European countries beginning in 2022.Nobili and Jollet dual-report to Raffaele Annecchino, president and CEO of Paramount International Networks, Studios and Streaming, and to Tom Ryan, president and CEO of streaming.
