David Beckham's Netflix documentary was watched by millions across the world upon its release in 2023.The four-part series focuses on the ex-footballer's life, from his upbringing to relationship with wife Victoria. The hit show tells the full story of David's rise to fame, as well as Victoria's, with many hilarious moments thrown in. Fans loved Beckham and certain scenes even went viral on social media.

Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie is in hot pursuit of an Oscar nomination, but in the meantime the documentary about the beloved Hollywood star has picked up major awards at the Emmys.

It was a very good night for Michael J. Fox Apple TV+’s Davis Guggenheim-directed documentary on the star’s life and battle with Parkinsons Disease won in all five categories for which it was nominated at the 8th Annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards. It swept the board for Best Documentary Feature, Best Director, Editing for Michael Harte, Narration for Fox himself, and Biographical Documentary.The Critics Choice Documentary Awards, held tonight at the Edison Hotel in New York City and live streamed, recognizes the year’s finest achievements in documentaries released in theaters, on TV and on major digital platforms, as determined by the voting of qualified CCA members. 20 Days in Mariupol winning for Best First Documentary for director Msyyslav Chernov and Best Political Documentary picked up a pair of wins as did Netflix’s docus  American Symphony, and The Deepest Breath which each took home two awards. Jon Batiste was the subject of American Symphony which had a leading six nominations and won a prize as Best Music Documentary as well as for Batiste’s score. The Deepest Breath prevailed as Best Sports Documentary and for its Cinematography.

Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie heads into final Emmy Awards voting with more nominations than any other nonfiction project this year: seven in all, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, as well as recognition for director Davis Guggenheim and picture editor Michael Harte.

Apple TV+’s documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie sets itself apart from the deluge of celeb documentaries. Yes, it’s a documentary about the actor’s life and his battle with Parkinson’s disease. Some may even approach it thinking they’ve seen a doc like this before. But when you pull away from the film, it feels like you’ve watched a fully-bodied autobiopic about the Family Ties and Back to the Future star.

Charna Flam Apple has released the official trailer for its highly anticipated documentary, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” which is set to premiere on May 12. “Still” follows Fox, the legendary “Back to the Future” and “Teen Wolf” actor, as he recounts his life story, from his childhood in Canada to becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Director Davis Guggenheim elevates Fox’s story with the inclusion of documentary, archival and scripted elements, which come together to take viewers inside Fox’s world. In interviews with Guggenheim, Fox recounts the difficult years that followed his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease, a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements, at just 29 years old. Now 61 and having come to terms with the illness, Fox recounts in the trailer how living with Parkinson’s has made him a “tough son of a bitch.”

I love the title of Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth documentarian Davis Guggenheim’s wonderful new docu on the life and times of Michael J. Fox. It is called Still a Michael J. Fox Movie. The Sundance website has a colon where you might expect it to be, right after Still, but the press notes leave it out which is how I hope Apple Studios — which has the film for an unspecified future release date and is world premiering it Friday at the Sundance Film Festival — would officially call it. That’s because what Guggenheim, and importantly his editor MIchael Harte, have made is simply that, A Michael J. Fox Movie from start to finish and all that implies.
