Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief TNT Sports is to be the new name of the premium sports brand being launched in the U.K. by BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery. It will replace the name BT Sport. The Eurosport brand, owned by WBD, will also disappear from the U.K. The move, announced on Tuesday, will take effect later this year, from the start of the U.K. 2023-24 soccer season. The companies were less specific about the timetable for the disappearance of the Eurosport name. Eurosport, which has been a brand in the U.K. since 1989, will be “rolled into the new brand at some time in the future.”

The incoming Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD)/ BT Group UK sports streaming JV will be named TNT Sports, the U.S. media giant has revealed.

K.J. Yossman Warner Bros. Discovery and BT Group have formed a joint venture combining the assets of BT Sport and Eurosport U.K. into an as-yet-untitled joint venture. Both WBD and BT hold a 50% stake each in the new venture and are equally represented on the board. The chair will be rotated between the companies, with the inaugural post held by BT, who have appointed Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s consumer division. Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe president and managing director Andrew Georgiou is also on the board and will lead the business. Although the transaction has been completed, BT Sport and Eurosport U.K. currently retain their individual identities and can continue to be accessed by viewers as normal. They will be merged at an unspecified date.

Naman Ramachandran British telecom major BT Group revealed that on Thursday that it has “entered exclusive discussions with Discovery, Inc. on a deal to create a new sport and entertainment offering for customers in the U.K.”The new business would be a 50/50 joint venture, bringing together BT Sport with Eurosport U.K. “The new combined business would remain committed to retaining BT Sport’s existing major sports broadcast rights while BT Sport customers would get access to Discovery’s sport and entertainment content, including the Discovery Plus app,” said a statement from the BT Group.

EE has launched a new plan for iPhone, including access to Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade, as well as unlimited mobile data and the option to upgrade to a new phone anytime.

Mobile phone network operator EE will give all NHS staff unlimited data for the next six months to support them through the coronavirus crisis.
