Disney+ is celebrating its upcoming series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, adapted from Rick Riordan’s beloved YA book series about a teenage boy who discovers he’s the son of Greek god Poseidon.

Logan Lerman, who played the title character in two Percy Jackson films a decade ago, offered praise and best wishes to the latest actor to take on the role: “I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker [Scobell],” Lerman wrote in a note read aloud to Scobell during a podcast featuring the cast and producers of the new Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

20th Century Fox wanted Chris Columbus‘ 2010 film “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” to kick off a franchise that could contend with “Harry Potter.” Alas, that didn’t happen. Critics had a mixed reception about the feature, and it didn’t do well at the box office either.

Rick Riordan‘s “Percy Jackson & The Olympians” was one of the biggest YA fantasy series of the 2000s, capitalizing on the road paved by the “Harry Potter” series. But the 2010 and 2013 films based on the series didn’t really connect with either critics or audiences.

“Percy Jackson” fans finally have a premiere date for the long-awaited Disney+ epic series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”.

Disney+ dropped the first trailer for its highly-anticipated series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” at the D23 Expo on Saturday.
