Actor Idris Elba says he’s going to stick with being the tormented detective John Luther — not James Bond.

Netflix has released the official trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun, its long-in-the-works Luther stand-alone follow-up movie that returns Idris Elba as John Luther, the complicated detective behind the BBC crime drama that ran for five seasons on the BBC.

Netflix on Wednesday revealed that the title for its long-in-the-works Luther stand-alone movie that returns Idris Elba as the complicated detective behind the BBC crime drama that ran for five seasons on the BBC.

Idris Elba has said the upcoming Luther movie is a ‘massive achievement’ for the cast and crew. The Hollywood star, who scored his breakthrough role in hit US TV series The Wire 20 years ago, also revealed the Netflix film version of his breakthrough BBC detective drama is close to completion.

IDRIS Elba has been spotted shooting for upcoming Luther spin-off movie for Netflix in association with the BBC, and it’s about time.  In the new feature-length film, the actor once again steps into the shoes of John Luther, a dogged DCI who often struggles to tell the difference between good and bad.  The snaps show him filming scenes at night alongside actress Cynthia Erivo, 35, a new cast member who will play a fellow detective.   Fans can see the 49-year-old decked out in his titular character’s familiar woollen overcoat and a blue shirt, and Cynthia in a smart navy military trench coat with gold buttons.   Idris also looked a little worse for wear in the shots, sporting minor wounds to his nose and cheek and just the slightest hint of a black eye.  The pair were surrounded by masked crew members as production continued on the movie, which Idris previously said he was looking forward to making. It is thought the project, which Netflix have described as “an epic continuation of the Luther saga reimagined for film”, will throw a couple of major problems the policeman's way.
