Discovery, wants to get into the business of producing a broader range of content — some of it tied to sports, and some of it linked to popular culture.

Jack Dunn NBA all-star Joel Embiid‘s Miniature Géant, in collaboration with Lebron James‘ athlete empowerment brand Uninterrupted, has unveiled plans for its latest project, “Backline,” a narrative feature about African athletes breaking into professional American football. Inspired by the true stories of current NFL athletes, “Backline” follows two Nigeran friends who aim to fulfill their dreams of playing professional football in America. Written and directed by Editi Effiong (“The Black Book”), production is set to begin in 2025.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James became the first player to be named to 20 All-Star teams Thursday night, selected for the Western Conference as part of the league’s unveiling of the 10 starters for next month’s All-Star Game in Indianapolis.

Whitney Cinkala Damar Hamlin will receive the Variety Sports and Entertainment Social Impact Award as part of the Variety Sportico Sports and Entertainment Summit, presented by City National Bank on July 13 in Los Angeles. Hamlin will be recognized for his accomplished philanthropy work, including extensive projects with the American Heart Association. He will also participate in a keynote conversation following his acceptance of the award. Additionally, NBA 2023 MVP Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers will join his WME agent Ross Raphael in a keynote conversation at the event. Embiid and Raphael will speak about their ongoing collaboration in sports, media and entertainment.

The six-time NBA All-Star is launching Miniature Géant, a new production studio, in partnership with The SpringHill Company, the media company backed by LeBron James and Maverick Carter. “We want to do as much as we can to inspire,” says Embiid, who has galvanized sports fans by overcoming injuries early in his career for the Philadelphia 76ers, which he joined in 2014. He adds: “I want it to be successful, but I want it done the right way. The whole goal is just to try to tell people stories, and use my platform to inspire the next generation.”

Earlier in the season Jokic said he did not care about winning the MVP award for a third straight year, The honors would go to Joel Embiid. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s recent wedding may not have been an entirely spontaneous choic after all. A resurfaced video reveals that the singer considered a Las Vegas wedding way back when the couple was first engaged in the early 2000s.
