James Buckley on why ‘The Inbetweeners’ can never return

The Inbetweeners can never return for a new season. The actor, who played Jay Cartwright in the Channel 4 sitcom and its two film adaptations, told the Daily Mail that the characters wouldn’t be able to realistically behave the same way as they did in the original show.“It was all justified because they were never the heroes,” Buckley said, referring to the antics of the sixth-former friendship group (via Lad Bible). “They were idiots and they got what they deserved.”He continued: “That’s why it can’t come back – you can’t have men in their late thirties acting like they’re in sixth form and getting away with that stuff.“I always get asked if I’d ever do more [episodes] and I said, ‘for no amount of money’ and that quote got run away.”Buckley added: “I didn’t mean about money – it means more to me than money.”The actor, 36, is the youngest among the main cast of The Inbetweeners, which also starred Simon Bird (39), Blake Harrison (38) and Joe Thomas (39).Earlier this year, Bird (who played William McKenzie) said the show “wouldn’t be made today” due to its “casual homophobia” and sexism.“I rationalise it to myself by saying that at the time it was an accurate representation of the way teenagers talk to each other.

The Inbetweeners’ Hannah Tointon gives birth to first child with fiance and co-star Joe Thomas
Our favourite real life couple from The Inbetweeners have become parents with Hannah Tointon and Joe Thomas welcoming their first child together. Hannah, 34, and Joe, 38, met and fell in love on set of the cult classic Channel 4 series in 2010, in which they played on-screen boyfriend and girlfriend Simon and Tara, and have been together since. The couple typically keep their relationship out of the spotlight which is why it has no doubt come as a surprise to fans that, not only was Hannah secretly pregnant, but she’s already given birth without announcement. Hannah’s sister and former EastEnders actress Kara kindly spilled the beans while appearing on Ashley James’ Mum’s The Word podcast recently. ‘My sister’s just had her first,’ she announced. Just in case you were wondering if Kara was referring to another sister, Hannah is in fact her only sibling. Sharing brand new information about the new parents’ pregnancy journey, she continued: ‘What’s funny is that on Joe’s side there’s only boys, even during the scan they accidentally said “he” at one point, so they’d gone along thinking it’s a boy. ‘Everyone playing the shape game etc said she’s having a boy, so when they eventually had a boy, it was really brilliant, but it knocked them for six.’ ‘So they hadn’t even decided on a girls’ name, they left it as a surprise,’ Kara added. Hannah and Joe moved in together in 2012, two years after meeting on The Inbetweeners, and got engaged in 2017 with Joe popping the question. In 2018, Joe shared an insight into how he and Hannah approached working together on their film The Festival, which was released that year, while also being in a long-term relationship. ‘I’ve just got used to it, she’s just in everything because my brain

Inbetweeners cast members have had varied careers since the show – from switching to online streaming to going down the reality TV route and becoming television pin-ups.The classic E4 series ran from 2008 to 2010 and proved so popular that it spawned two films in 2011 and 2014.In keeping with the hilarious programme, the first film follows the misadventures of four school friends – Will McKenzie (Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley) and Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) – as they embark on their first "lads' holiday".READ MORE: Inbetweeners cast on series - refusing reboot, offensive humour and escaping charactersThe sequel was set in Australia, with the lads getting up to no good as usual. With it being 11 years since the first movie, Daily Star takes a look at what The Inbetweeners cast got up to next.It was very fortunate that Simon's romance with Carli D'Amato didn't actually work out, otherwise, he might not have joined the lads' on holiday in a bid to chase after her.The unlucky chap always seemed to be on the wrong side of fortune. In the film, after giving up on Carli, he realised Lucy – played by Tamla Kari – was the girl for him and attempted to swim across the sea to be with her.But it ended in catastrophe and he was airlifted out of the water after almost drowning - all while the entire boat party watched from the fun and booze-fuelled yacht. Joe Thomas went on to play a very similar character in Fresh Meat which aired on Channel 4.He went on to have quite a successful movie career including Scottish Mussel, The Dark Universe and the Straw Donkey.

Joe Thomas has been dating his Inbetweeners co-star for more than 10 years
The Inbetweeners. The comedy foursome could make us laugh until we cried or massively cringe throughout the episodes.A particularly cringe worthy aspect was the love life of the boys - especially the lovable Simon.READ MORE: Simon Bird hints The Inbetweeners cast could reunite for Netflix specialIn the last series it seemed as though fan favourite Simon had finally found love when he settled into a relationship with stunner Tara.Simon spent "as much time as was humanly possible munching his girlfriend's face off" before she proposed a trip to Warwick to have some "lovely sex together".However it wasn't meant to be, after an awkward exchange involving Simon angrily slapping his flaccid penis and then exposing himself to a room full of people.Tara told him to never contact her again.Even though the relationship didn't work out for the two characters, it seems as though the actors had pretty good chemistry.Joe Thomas and Hannah Tointon, who played the characters, are celebrating 12 years together this year.According to the Metro, the pair moved in together a couple of years after The Inbetweeners ended in 2010.The love birds then got engaged in 2017, seven years after starring alongside each other in the show. While they've remained fairly private about their relationship, Joe once mentioned his romance with Tointon in a 2018 interview on Lorraine. At the time, the couple had partnered up for a film called The Festival.
