The 1950s can inspire various forms of nostalgia. Three films this Oscar season give life to that bygone era in three very different ways. Till gives a historically accurate representation of the period, heavily based on newsreels and photos documenting the Emmett Till case. The decade gets a rose-colored perspective with Don’t Worry Darling, taking a more opulent and luxurious lens to the Golden Age in America, while Living takes on 1950s London, showing a more restrained aesthetic and color palette than its American counterparts. 

Till tells the powerful story of Mamie Till-Mobley’s fight for justice after her 14-year-old son Emmett Till was lynched in rural Mississippi in 1955.The drama from Orion Pictures, MGM Pictures and United Artists Releasing stars Danielle Deadwyler as Mamie Till-Mobley and Jalyn Hall as Emmett Till. Chinonye Chukwu directed and co-wrote the script with Michael Reilly and Keith Beauchamp.

Whoopi Goldberg has a note of her own for one reviewer of her new film Till.

Whoopi added: “I assume you don't watch the show, or you would know that was not a fat suit.”She continued by adding that it was “ok to not be a fan of the movie” but suggested the writer should not critique people’s external appearances.She added: “Just comment on the acting, and if you have a question, ask somebody.“I’m sure you didn't mean to be demeaning.”Whoopi’s co-panellist Sunny Hostin noted the “health challenges” her co-star had endured.Whoopi responded: “We will hope that she just didn't know, and now she'll know the next time you go to talk about somebody, you talk about them as an actor.“If you're not sure if that's them in there, don't make blanket statements, because it makes you not sound like you know what you're doing.”The Daily Beast has since added an editor's note which read: “This story has been updated to reflect that Whoopi Goldberg says she was not wearing a fat suit.”Last year, Whoopi struggled with some difficult health challenges that left her using a walker.Concerns grew among fans after she was absent from The View for a week before she came back and explained she had been battling a health condition.The host said she had been “laying in a hospital room” because of a condition called sciatica in mid-2020.She elaborated: “It is basically a bulging disc in your back and it impacts the sciatic nerve, which sends pain down your leg.“I was trying to move my leg – impossible to do.

Whoopi Goldberg has slammed a film critic for claiming she wore a "fat suit" in the new movie Till. During an appearance on The View on Monday, the Sister Act actress called out an unnamed reviewer who made a comment about her wearing a "distracting fat suit" to portray Emmett Till's grandmother, Alma Carthan, in the biographical feature. However, during a conversation on the talk show, Whoopi noted that she wasn't wearing a fat suit and looked different because she had suffered a variety of health issues in the lead-up to production beginning in September 2021.
