Mariah Carey is marking a career first at the upcoming 2023 Billboard Music Awards!

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large GLAAD — the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization — has been named the recipient of the Television Academy‘s 2023 Governors Award. The honor will be presented during the 75th Annual Primetime Emmys telecast, set to be broadcast live on Fox (after a lengthy Hollywood strikes delay) on January 15.

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization, will be honored with the 2023 Governors Award, the Television Academy announced today. The organization will be recognized for its work over nearly four decades to secure fair, accurate and diverse representation of the LGBTQ community in the media and entertainment industries and to advocate for LGBTQ equality. GLAAD’s President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, will accept the award during the Jan. 15 Emmy Awards telecast on Fox.

Starz’s P-Valley won a leading three awards including Best Drama, Best Ensemble and Best Acting (Male) for J. Alphonse Nicholson and Nicco Annan as the African American Film Critics Association revealed winners Wednesday of its fifth annual TV Honors.

McKinley Franklin editor “Abbott Elementary” and “P-Valley” are among the top winners of the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA)’s fifth annual TV Honors, which recognizes exceptional achievements in broadcast television and streaming with an emphasis on entertainment representing the Black diaspora.  “Abbott Elementary” took home titles for best TV comedy and best TV writing (awarded to Quinta Brunson) alongside “P-Valley” for best TV drama. Niecy Nash-Betts and Jessica Williams were also awarded best TV acting (female) and breakout star, respectively. They join a slate of awardees including J. Alphonse Nicholson and Nicco Annan for best ensemble and best TV acting (male) and Mary Lou Belli, Debbie Allen, Tasha Smith, Henry Chan and Jordan E. Cooper from “The Ms. Pat Show” for best TV directing.

The conversation took place during the “Grey’s Anatomy” panel at PaleyFest LA, held in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre and moderated by Emmy nominee T.R. Knight — who portrayed Dr. George O’Malley on the show for 15 years. The original action-adventure animated series follows Kiya, a seven-year-old African girl, whose passions in life are dancing and martial arts, which also become her superpowers. Set in the southern Africa-inspired Kimoja City, each 11-minute episode focuses on themes of community, empathy and unity and features African and Asian-lead characters. When Allen isn’t working on “Grey’s Anatomy,” she’s leading her dance academy and middle school — both of which are based in Los Angeles. She offers a slew of programming aimed at educating kids (some of whom are as young as 3 years old) in academics and the arts. Her academy’s “Hot Chocolate Nutcracker” has become a popular holiday staple. Previously, Allen showcased the preparation process for the big show with members of her dance academy in Netflix’s “Dance Dreams” documentary in 2020.
