In the comic book, Rick’s left hand is chopped off early on, in issue 28, by the Governor after he refuses to answer questions under interrogation.Showrunner Scott Gimple said that the decision to part Rick from his left hand came from Lincoln himself.“I played around with the idea but didn’t commit to it through all sorts of iterations of the story,” Gimple told Entertainment Weekly.

The spinoff series starring Norman Reedus will officially debut on Sept. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the linear network and its streaming counterpart. Per the official logline of the series, “Daryl (Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.”

AMC announced on Tuesday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that there will be three new spin-offs.Walking Dead favorites Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be back for the shows.
