A vending machine for ducks is to be installed at a country park so that the birds can eat healthily. Bury Council has agreed to the move at Burrs Country Park following a request from the ‘friends’ group of volunteers who care for the park.

The sticky issue of unsightly chewing gum lodged on Bury’s pavements is to be dealt with by the purchase of an ‘eco gum clean-up truck’. A grant from the chewing gum task force, administered by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, will help the council clean up gum.

The Environment Agency is investigating ‘foul smells’ from a landfill site after hundreds of complaints those living nearby. A meeting of Bury Council heard about concerns about odours from the Pilsworth South Quarry landfill site affecting people living in both Bury and Heywood.

The first of a new fleet of 15 electric vans has arrived at Bury Council to help cut the borough’s carbon emissions. The new vehicles are part of a £10M plan to renew the local authorty’s fleet, bringing greener and more efficient vehicles to the council’s operational services department.

Work on a partially built skate park has stopped after the firm delivering it went into liquidation. Construction of the £225,000 ‘wheeled sports’ park in Clarence Park Bury, which would cater for skate boarding, BMX riding and scooters, began in June and the area has been cleared in readiness for ramps and other equipment to be installed.

A man has had speakers, TVs and microphones seized for the second time during lockdown after 'harassing his neighbours' with noise.The 32-year-old first had TVs and speakers confiscated by Bury Council in August after he kept playing loud music all day and night.Six Town Housing, which manages Bury's housing stock, warned their tenant not to make any more noise.But despite the reprimand, the man went out and got more equipment later to carry on disturbing his neighbours just two days after the council seized his items.The equipment has once again been confiscated by the council.Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, said: “This man blatantly ignored the warnings and carried on his disruption within days of our initial

A popular skate park that has been open for 15 years has been forced to close after 'mindless vandals' set repeated fires and damaged equipment.Bury Council have announced that the Clarence Park skate park will be shut until further notice after it was left in a 'state of disrepair'.Coun Alan Quinn said the problems had been caused by groups of people who would regularly set fire to the wooden sections of the equipment as well as causing other damage and acting threateningly to people who passed by.He said repairs to the park and work to improve the equipment in order to avoid future damage would likely have cost tens of thousands of pounds."These idiots have set fires on the tarmac and the skate ramps," he said.

One-off brown bin collections are being organised to pick up people’s garden and food waste in Bury.
