In the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof moved from centre-back to right-back for United's 2-2 draw with Leicester City but struggled to get to grips with Harvey Barnes, who scored for the Foxes in an influential performance.
Lindelof went off with a back injury during the game and was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe, who Scholes felt was much-improved on the Sweden international.
The former United defender felt Tuanzebe's introduction was one of a number of subs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made which improved the Reds.
