Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that by November 2020, 5.8 million people across the UK were claiming Universal Credit, a benefit payment intended to help those out of work or on a low income with daily living costs.As financial uncertainty becomes a bigger reality for many households across Scotland, and with much speculation about an extension to the furlough scheme ahead of the Budget on March 3, anyone who has never applied for welfare assistance before may be put off by the prospect of making an application - or automatically assumed they do not qualify because they are working or have savings.
