A rare condition has left a gymnastics-loving 11-year-old girl paralysed from the chest down. Malika Mawhinney came back from school on March 16 with unbearable pain in her back.
Her mum Debbie rushed her to hospital, where she was later diagnosed with transverse myelitis, Chronicle Live reports. The disease is a disorder caused by an inflammation of the spinal cord, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Now Malika, who has been doing boxing and gymnastics since she was three, can no longer enjoy her favourite sports. Her mum explained: "She came home from school one day complaining her legs felt funny then the next thing I knew she was rolling around the floor screaming in pain with her back.
