Officers descended on Manchester city centre after concerns were raised about a man carrying a possible 'gun'. Greater Manchester Police was called out about the incident at around 8.50am today (August 16).
Police stopped outside the entrance to Manchester Arndale near Exchange Square. Images from the scene show two GMP vehicles responding to the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing police on the scene at 9am. A person was seen being detained by officers before being taken to the back of a police van. The force says a male was arrested on suspicion of carrying an imitation firearm. GMP says there was 'no armed deployment' following the incident.
