Watchdog Ofcom wants to bring in a six point ‘’risk matrix” to protect the welfare of contestants on TV and stop any more “Jeremy Kyle-style” suicides.
The media regulator is drafting a new set of rules to safeguard members of the public who appear on shows and end up thrust into the spotlight.
Officials want new guidelines following the deaths of ex-Love Island contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis, and also The Jeremy Kyle Show guest Steve Dymond.
The three tragedies led to a huge public backlash about how well they had been looked after since appearing on TV and what help they received to cope with trolling, abuse and depression.
