After airing earlier this week on RTE, the limited series Normal People received backlash from older viewers during a Liveline debate over some of its more explicit scenes.
The show, directed by Lenny Abrahamson, and adapted from the novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, follows the story of young adults Connell and Marianne transitioning from secondary school to college life while treading the uneasy waters of first love and losses.
The Liveline debate branded ‘absolute gold’ by listeners featured the concerned comments of viewers, comparing scenes in the show to ‘something you’d see in a porno’, and warning that it could be encouraging young people to engage in sexual behaviour.
