Serang Traffic Police Chief Tiwi Afrina said: "[The odong-odong] was traveling from Walantata towards Kragilan and it was driving through a gate-less railway crossing."Then the accident happened between the train and the odong-odong.

Nine people were killed. With 20 passengers, the odong-odong surely exceeded its maximum capacity."Many survivors of the crash, which occurred when the odong-odong careered through a gateless railway crossing, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment to their injuries.Despite injuries and death among the passengers, the driver of the open-topped bus came away from the incident completely unscathed.The driver has since been taken into custody for further questioning.Transport chiefs are now looking into closing down the "illegal" crossing where the fatal odong-odong crash took place.Adita Irawat, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, said: "We are sorry for the odong-odong accident that was hit by a train in Kragilan, Serang Regency, Banten."We regret the incident that caused the death.
