Nicola Sturgeon has made a fresh plea for the UK Government to extend the furlough scheme to prevent thousands of Scots from losing their jobs next month.
A new Scottish Government report estimates the cost of extending the job support programme north of the Border would be around £850 million – and wider economic benefits mean it could pay for itself.Holyrood ministers estimate more than two-thirds of businesses in Scotland are still furloughing their workforce to some extent - with 15% of Scots workers still having their wages paid for by the scheme.But so far the UK Government has given no firm indication furlough will be extended beyond next month's cut-offSturgeon said the rise in unemployment in Scotland - which latest figures show.
