First Minister made the warning after the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic passed 120,000 this week.

All mainland council areas were placed in tier four of the Scottish Government's lockdown framework as of Boxing Day, meaning hospitality businesses are shut and people are banned from mixing with other households indoors.It comes as a potent new strain of Covid is being blamed for the explosion in case numbers across London and the south-east of England over the last month.The SNP leader ordered the closure of the border with England before Christmas in a bid to reduce the impact of the second wave of infections.The average number of new cases per day in Scotland has been rising.
