Thousands more first time buyers will be able to get on the housing ladder with a 5% deposit from next year when Help to Buy 2.0 launches across the UK.
The scheme, first launched in 2013, was introduced to help people buy new-build homes with financial help from the government.
However, the current scheme is due to end next March, and today, the replacement scheme opens for new applicants. Under it, the government will lend homeowners up to 20% of the property value, interest-free, to lower the mortgage and increase affordability.
The latest version of the scheme opens on April 1, and homeowners can now apply now for new-builds that will be completed on or after that date.
