UK hair salons (which would equate to around 20,000 salons) are unsure whether they can survive past Christmas. And that was even before the second lockdown forced them to close again, along with other sectors like hospitality.But unlike pubs and restaurants, hairdressers have had no financial help to keep their businesses open.
There is, however, a quick win that would help them. Hospitality businesses have had their VAT cut from 20 per cent down to five per cent, and the hairdressers of this country are simply asking for the same.Two weeks ago, a group of the UK’s leading stylists launched a campaign called Chop the VAT, backed by the Telegraph, to make some noise about why our nation’s salons need such crucial help.
