A mum says a 'common cold' she caught while pregnant left her daughter unable to walk and talk. Carer Courtney Farnell, 21, gave birth to her disabled daughter after contracting common cytomegalovirus (CMV).
The virus which causes cold-like symptoms in kids and adults, reports Leeds Live. The Leeds mum says she caught it from her caring duties with vulnerable people.
The virus - transferred in saliva, tears and urine - is usually harmless, but can be fatal to unborn babies, and Courtney unwittingly caught it when she was eight weeks pregnant.
It damaged the foetus, and Courtney said she was urged to abort baby Minnie-Mae by medics who said she was likely to be stillborn.
