mirror.co.ukA United States mum is being held on suspicion of drowning her young son then knifing herself. Police say the boy's father returned home late Monday night to find the five-year-old face down and unresponsive in a bathtub filled with water, reports NBC Philadelphia.
Officers told the broadcaster the boy had a cut to his neck. Paramedics performed CPR on the boy, who remained unconscious at the scene.
He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later, local law enforcement told reporters. The mother is in custody following the incident at the family's West Philadelphia apartment.
The 40-year-old woman was said to have made 'statements' to officers, but police would disclose what she said, according to NBC.
