PayPal is set to start charging customers from December 16 as part of a crackdown on dormant accounts. The online shopping giant said inactive customers will be charged £12 a year, with the money automatically taken from accounts later this month.
Members that have been idle for 12 or more consecutive months will be charged the fee - which will reflect their current balance.
But PayPal said it has no plans to close accounts - so if you have a log-in that's empty and not linked to a bank account, you won't be charged.
It also won't apply to customers in Ireland, according to the terms and conditions of the penalty. "We are establishing an inactivity fee for accounts that have been inactive for at least 12 consecutive months," a PayPal
