Vice-President Mike Pence has opposed plans to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Donald Trump from office early. The Republican deputy leader - who holds the power to strip the President of his duties - said in a letter to House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday that he is against any such measure. "I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution," Pence said.

Pelosi had said she would move forward with impeaching Trump if Pence failed to invoke the unprecedented change to the Constitution.

Democrats in the House of Representatives have already formally charged Trump with one count of "incitement of insurrection" and hope to vote as early as today.
