Michael Owen has admitted thinking Zinedine Zidane was 'God' during his time at Real Madrid. The former Liverpool striker played with Zidane for one season at the Santiago Bernabeu from 2004-05, following his transfer from Anfield.
Zidane was already a World Cup and Champions League winner by the time Owen arrived at the club, and had been widely regarded as one of the best players in world football for some time.
And the Frenchman clearly made a lasting impression on Owen. "Zinedine Zidane was technically the most gifted player," Owen said on BBC podcast . "He was almost born to have the ball at his feet. "Even when he ran the ball was constantly the same distance away from him.
