Michael Apted has died aged 79. The film-maker was known for directing James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, Coronation Street and the 7-Up series.
He directed 24 episodes of Coronation Street from June 1966 to July 1967. Apted's agent confirmed the news of his death to the Hollywood Reporter, but his cause of death has not yet been revealed.
His Up series of documentaries for Granada Television, in which he profiled a varied group of young Britons and revisited them every seven years to what changes time had wrought, topped the list in the 2005 Channel 4 Program 'The 50 Greatest Documentaries.' The series was meant to be a one-off but Granada decided to check back in on the children in 1970 with 7 Plus Seven, which Apted also directed.
