A yellow weather warning for heavy snow has been issued by the Met Office for all of Greater Manchester this week. It comes as the UK is braced for the coldest day of the year, as temperatures are expected to plummet across the country in the coming days.

A warning is already in place for parts of Northern England for today (Monday) and Tuesday as the freezing conditions are expect to bring wintry showers. In an update, meteorologists warned: "Heavy snow has the potential to cause significant disruption on Thursday and Friday. "There is a small chance that long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur.

There is a slight chance that roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers "There is a small chance that communities could be cut off for several days.
