As stressed-out care workers fearing for their lives plead for more protective equipment, Matt Hancock yesterday offered them a badge – sparking outrage.
The Health Secretary said it would let them “publicly identify themselves” as NHS staff do. But the GMB union said: “Care workers need more than a badge to define their precious role in society.” And one carer at a nursing home group where 11 have died said they are so short of protection that staff fear for their lives.
Laura Hibbard, 34, said coronavirus has “ripped through” her nursing home, one of three linked homes which have already lost 11 people to Covid-19.
