Martin Lewis warns 1 million people eligible for free TV licence could miss out

Martin Lewis has said at least 1 million people will be eligible for the free TV licence when rules change in the summer – and not even know it.

Currently, no one over the age of 75 has to pay for a TV licence but this will likely soon change.Speaking on This Morning, Martin explained: “The BBC has had a reduction in its future licensing from the government which is why it says it has to cut free TV licences for the over-75s.”The legislation was scheduled to be brought in on June 1, but this has now been delayed until August 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic.After that time, only those aged 75 and over who receive pension credit will be eligible for the scheme.And this, Martin claims, is where people are missing out.“It's worth noting there.
