Maroon 5's Mickey Madden is taking a break from the band. On June 27 the musician was taken into custody after an alleged incident of domestic violence - the alleged victim has not been identified.

Now, two-weeks after the arrest the bass guitarist, 41, has decided to "take a leave of absence" from the band as he does "not want to be a distraction." "I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future," Madden explained in a statement given to PEOPLE. "During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates.
