Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has said that Paul Pogba does not have the defensive instincts to be able to play in the defensive midfield role for the side.
The Frenchman lined up in that role alongside Scott McTominay for the midweek Champions League clash against Villarreal, but was taken off with 15 minutes remaining and replaced by Nemanja Matic.
That winning goal eventually came in stoppage time courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo. It led to questions over where Pogba fits into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting 11.
And after the 28-year-old was named on the bench for the Premier League match against Everton — though he did replace Fred in the second half — Schmeichel outlined why the defensive midfield position doesn’t suit
