A man who had a sick 'obsession' with a child has been jailed for a string of sexual offences. Police were tipped off about the 'unhealthy' behaviour of Jonathan Roberts, 30, who was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (July 15).
The court heard how the offences occurred while Roberts visited an address where the young victim lived. After a short period of time, police received a report relating to concerns over Roberts' fixation with the child.
It triggered an in-depth investigation by detectives in Tameside, which led to Roberts' arrest in November 2021. A subsequent search of his mobile phone also identified an indecent image of a child. READ MORE: Police investigating 'deliberate' Dovestone fires which could have been 'devastating' Roberts, of no fixed abode, was charged with one count of attempt rape of a child, two counts of sexual activity in front of a child, one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of possession of indecent images.
He pleaded guilty to the offences and has been jailed for more than three-and-a-half years. Detective Constable Louise Isherwood, of GMP Tameside's Child Protection Investigation Unit, said: "Roberts' actions are nothing other than atrocious.
