Manchester United were forced to pay €5million to Sporting Lisbon after Bruno Fernandes' last-gasp penalty won the points for the Red Devils against Brighton.

United paid €55m (£45m) rising to €80m (£67.7m) for Fernandes last January. The Red Devils had paid Sporting €58m prior to Saturday after a €3m payout was triggered upon United qualifying for the Champions League last season.

Fernandes made his 25th appearance in the Premier League for United against Brighton, prompting another bonus of €5m (£4.5m) being triggered, according to Portuguese publication Record.

United will have no qualms with having to part with some cash following Saturday's controversial win over the south-coast club.
