Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly taken advantage of Liverpool's transfer market circumspection by moving for RB Leipzig hotshot Timo Werner.

Werner had been expected to move to the Premier League before coronavirus changed the transfer landscape, with Liverpool believed to have been his preferred destination.

But the Reds have changed their transfer plans due to the expected financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and will instead focus on scouring Europe for the best young talent.

That means putting a move for Werner on hold, as the Germany striker is reported to have a £52million release clause in his contract with Bundesliga title challengers Leipzig.
