Fernandinho is now 35 years old and is currently set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season when his current deal expires, although Pep Guardiola has suggested an extension may be possible.
Regardless, that would obviously be a short-term fix, and it’s believed City have identified Zakaria as the perfect replacement for Fernandinho if the Brazilian leaves the club after a successful eight years.
