Gorton at around 4.25pm on Tuesday (November 24).A 30-year-old man had approached a 50-year-old woman in the street and began to punch her repeatedly before pushing her to the floor, police said.Members of the public tried to intervene, which resulted in a 41-year-old man being assaulted with what is believed to have been a broken glass bottle.Both victims were taken to hospital where the man remains with potentially life changing injuries.
The woman has been discharged.The suspected offender fled the scene but was later arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and Section 47 assault.He remains in custody where he is being quizzed by detectives.It has not been confirmed whether the male suspect had been known to the two victims.Police.
