Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (born March 5, 1963), better known by his stage name Joe Exotic, is an American former zoo operator, internet personality, musician, and convicted felon. The former owner and operator of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (a.k.a. G. W. Zoo) in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Maldonado-Passage had claimed to be the most prolific breeder of tigers in the United States. He twice unsuccessfully ran for public office, first for President of the United States in 2016 as an independent, and then for Governor of Oklahoma in 2018 as a Libertarian.

Netflix documentary fans have been left astonished to see a different side to Tiger King star Joe Exotic after an earlier documentary of the big cat fanatic being interviewed by Louis Theroux resurfaced.

Earlier this year, the world was mesmerised when Netflix debuted their documentary series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness which focused on the rise and fall of zoo owner Joe Exotic – aka 57-year-old Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage.

However, the Netflix show was not the first time cameras followed Joe as British investigative journalist Louis, 49, interviewed the eccentric big cat owner for BBC documentary Louis Theroux: America’s Most Dangerous Pets in 2011.
