Liverpool have escaped a 14-day quarantine which would have forced them to abandon the Community Shield. The Reds are currently at a training camp in Austria, which was placed on the UK Government’s quarantine list at short notice on Thursday evening.
That would have given them until 4am on Saturday morning to leave the country or face the mandatory quarantine. But because boss Jurgen Klopp has arranged two friendly matches in Salzburg, where they are staying in a mountain retreat just outside the city, they are able to apply for an exemption through the FA.
Government rules state that elite athletes can travel to play matches and be exempt from the mandatory quarantine, by applying through the sporting body, if they maintain an isolation
