The Princes Park ward councillor has made history as the first black woman to lead any major UK city. She was victorious after the count went to second preferences, leaving just Ms Anderson and Independent candidate, Stephen Yip.
Previous mayor Joe Anderson - who is of no relation to the new mayor - stepped aside from the role due to an ongoing police investigation.
