Greater Manchester has been hit with heavy rain and thunderstorms for a second day in a row. Just before 5pm on Sunday evening (July 9), a roaring bellow of thunder could be heard from across the city-region.
Residents in Tameside, Trafford, Bury, Stockport and South Manchester all reported thunder with some also experiencing lightning.
Videos sent into the M.E.N from Old Trafford, Bury and Didsbury showed the dramatic lightning the moment it struck. A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms was in place for Greater Manchester yesterday - from 8am until 11.59pm - as well as much of England and Scotland.
Speaking of the warning in place yesterday, the Met Office's Dan Suri said: “Despite the hot start to the weekend weather for most, Saturday’s thundery breakdown brings about a transition to cooler, showery conditions for Sunday onwards well into next week. “The main message at the moment is to be aware of the potential for heavy downpours with lightning, hail and gusty winds on Saturday.
