GMP have enforced new powers in an area of Greater Manchester after a group of armed men were seen fighting. Police were called to reports of the group fighting 'with weapons' in the area of Parkhills Road, in Bury, on Friday night.
One man had to be taken to hospital but has since been discharged. Another man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody for questioning, a force spokesman said.
GMP have now enforced section 60 powers in an area of Bury town centre, centring on the Parkhills Road and Manchester Road areas.
It will be in place until 9.40pm on Saturday and allows police officers to stop and search anyone in the area without needing to have reasonable grounds. "Extra patrols have been deployed and will remain in place through the day and into the evening to provide a visible policing presence and to provide reassurance," the spokesman added. Anyone with information or footage - including CCTV, doorbell or dashcam - related to this incident is urged to contact GMP. You can do so by making a report via the LiveChat function on GMP's website: www.gmp.police.uk Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
